On July 2, China Southern Airlines opened the first direct flight from Guangzhou to Yangon, the capital of Myanmar. Visitors going to "the country of Pagodas and Stupas" will no longer need to transit a third country.

Three flights per week; Monday, Wednesday and Saturday will be offered. The flights, CZ3055/6, will depart Guangzhou at 09:00 and arrive in Yangon at 12:00 (local time 10:30). The Yangon-Guangzhou flights will depart Yangon at 13:00 (local time 11:30), and arrive in Guangzhou at 16:10.

In the past domestic travelers usually to Yangon usually had to fly via Bangkok or Kunming, involving both a longer time and tiring transit procedures. Following the inauguration of the Guangzhou - Yangon route, travelers will be able to save both money and about half of the travel time.
