Canada’s bright jazz light Francois Bourassa is one of Canada’s most respected jazz pianists and composers. In July, 2007, he will receive the highly coveted Oscar Peterson Prize from one of the world’s most important jazz festivals: The Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. Franclis Bourassa has led his own group for nearly 25 years; while involved in many different projects. His trio with Adrian Vedady (bass) and Philippe Melanson (drums) is an impressive encounter of adventurous and talented musicians all acclaimed for their outstanding energy and improvisational skills. Bourassa is no stranger to the international circuit, having toured festivals, clubs and cultural centers across a dozen countries, including China, which they last visited in 2002. Bourassa and his different band mates have opened for luminaries such as Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Holland, Abbey Lincoln, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter and Dave Brubeck.
Paris-born singer Jeanne Rochette combines her schooling in the acting and musical traditions to create a stage show full of charisma and passion. After a spell on the Parisian jazz scene, Rochette relocated to Montreal in order to further her vocal studies; it was there that she met Bourassa, and since 2005, the two have combined efforts to wow audiences across Quebec and beyond. Rochette’s repertoire includes original compositions and reinterpretations of chansons and standards in English and French.
