The relics of Nanyue Wooden Water Gate of some 2,000 years history will be opened to public for free on June 9 (this Saturday, and also the second National Day of Cultural Heritage) in downtown Guangzhou, as told in a press conference on June 4.
The ancient structure dates back to the Nanyue Kingdom Age (BC 203-111). It is regarded by professionals as the oldest, largest and best preserved wooden water lock ever found in the world.
The site is located on the underground floor of Guangming Plaza on Xihu Lu, west to the famous shopping place Beijing Lu.
The relics excavation will be broadcasted live on CCTV-10, a channel of Chinese Central TV, on June 9, as a part of its TV show called "Chinese Memory, National Day of Cultural Heritage".
The Nanyue Kingdom Relics in Guangzhou includes Royal Palace (on Zhongshan Si Lu), Royal Tomb (on Jiefang Bei Lu) and the Water Gate. They were included in China's reserve list of world's cultural relics in December, 2006.
The Royal Palace site will perhaps to be developed as a relic park.

Guangzhou's preservation of Nanyue Kingdom relics is well-received as one of the best urban archaeological cases in China by the National Relics Bureau, according to the Pre-opening Office of Nanyue Royal Palace Museum.
Guangzhou used to be the capital of Nanyue Kingdom over 2,000 years ago.
