The APM system, the first ever in China to be deployed in an urban environment, is the same CX-100 technology that Bombardier Transportation is currently installing at Beijing Capital International Airport. The dual-lane, underground system for Guangzhou will serve the Zhujiang Xincheng Central District of Guangzhou City. Four of the system's nine stations will provide connections to Lines 1, 3 and 5 of the Guangzhou City metro network.
Raymond T. Betler, President, Total Transit Systems, Bombardier Transportation commented: "We are very proud that GMC and the Municipality have selected our high performance CX-100 system to connect the prestigious central business district with the flourishing Tianhe business and trade area." He added: "Both residents and tourists will benefit from quick connections to first-class business, cultural and leisure facilities."
Bombardier Transportation's facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be responsible for the design and supply of 14 BOMBARDIER(i) CX-100(i) vehicles and the BOMBARDIER(i) CITYFLO(i) 650 automatic train control system; as well as 18 guideway switches, to be fabricated in China. Bombardier Transportation will work in partnership with GMC who will supply the power systems, communications and platform screen doors. GMC will carry out design and construction of the tunnels and stations according to Bombardier specifications.
