The related departments of Huangpu District are busy repairing and reconstructing the old architectures on the Shuxiang Street of Hengsha recently. The architectures with strong "Ancient Chinese Characteristics" like Gongfu Private School and Peishi Private School have already been restored to their original appearance. At the same time, Huangpu District has planned to reconstruct Shuxiang Street into a street of Ancient Private Schools with a length of 230 meters. In 2010 when Guangzhou is hosting the Asian Games, the sounds of reading books in the ancient private schools will be heard again.

Hengsha Shuxiang Street, constructed in the Yuan Dynasty, is at the back of the Business Street of Dashadong Road. It had been repaired and reconstructed in the Qing Dynasty. At the beginning of the Min Dynasty, there were 52 private schools, book stores and ancestral temples on the street. The architectures on the street are so crowded that there is only one small lane left for the residents. However, due to several historical problems, most of the 300 buildings on the Street have been rented to the non-native people except some private schools, book stores and ancestral temples.
