It is aimed at bringing out retrospective insights concerning the Asian Financial Crisis of 10 years ago and providing helpful advice to improve China's macro-economic administration against the possibility of another similar turmoil.
Nine top Chinese economists, who are members of highly-received Chinese Economists 50 Forum, gave in-depth speeches on various topics, including the causes and characteristics of Asian Financial Crisis, recent stock market boom in China, RMB appreciation, overheating of China's economy, trade surplus, taxation, banking, fiscal administration, property prices and traps of economic development for developing countries.
Director General of Publicity Department of Guangzhou Municipal Government Chen Jianhua and President of Guangzhou Daily Dai Yuqing both addressed the workshop at the inauguration.
Dozens of officials from provincial and municipal governments and scores of senior executives of business organizations such as some foreign banks and companies in Guangzhou, and business scholars from local universities participated in the event. Some 300 were present in total.
The economists who addressed the symposium were in sequence Xie Ping, Tang Min, Wang Tongsan, Fan Gang, Ren Zhiqiang (CEO of a housing developer and non-member of the forum), Xu Shanda, Wu Xiaoling, He Liping, Zhang Shuguang and Xia Bin.
