It's 10 years since the Asian Financial Crisis.

On April 15, a group of economists, outstanding scholars, policy-makers, business leaders and public figures will convene in Guangzhou for a symposium focusing on the Crisis, organized by Guangzhou Daily Press Group and sponsored by the Publicity Department of Guangzhou Municipality and the Chinese Economist 50 Forum. Attendees from the Beijing-based Chinese Economist 50 Forum ("50 Forum") will focus on Chinese economic development and how to prevent such a financial crisis in China.

The "50 Forum" is made up of China's top 50 economists, a round-table intended to encourage discussion and consider various views on important economic topics or policies. For six years since its inception, the "50 Forum" has lead support of a more integrated and liberalized economy, as well as advocating further economic reform throughout China. The Asian financial crisis was a period of economic unrest that started in July 1997 in South Korea following the financial collapse of auto-maker Kia, which affected currencies, stock markets, and asset prices simultaneously in several Asian countries. [Asian Financial Crisis]
