Three artists, Chen Shaofang (Canton embroidery), Zhang Minhui (ivory and bone carving) and Yu Pei (Canton enamel), who were recently awarded the titles of "China's Handicraft Masters", are currently holding a joint show at the Yuehe Flower, Bird and Fish World. The show will run until April 20.
The list of "China's Handicraft Masters", published on January 11, is the first ranking of renowned handicraft artists since the State Council promulgated the Regulations on the Protection of Traditional Arts and Crafts in 1997. Chen Shaofang earned a place on the list with her work "A Bird with Phoenix Coronet", Yu Pei with his hexagonal enamel vase with double ears, and Zhang Minhui with his massive bone carving "Fresh Image of Yuexiu", hippo tooth sculpture carving "Monkey King", and 44-tier round mammoth tooth carving "Lucky Star Shines Bright". All of these creations by the three newly named "China's Handicraft Masters" are on display at the show.
Local artists who were crowned as national handicraft masters before 1997 and who are still alive include Li Dingning (ivory carving), Pan Chuju (ivory carving), and Zhang Yongtong (jade carving).
Venue of the Show: Yuehe Flower, Bird and Fish World
Location: Exits C & D, Huadiwan Subway Station, Huadi Avenue, Fangcun, Guangzhou
