Huanan Expressway and Linjiang Road to Be Connected
Key construction projects in Zhujiang New Town are always the highlights of Guangzhou's development plan. An official at the Guangzhou Construction Committee recently told the members of the Guangzhou People's Congress that the Xinguang Expressway phase II project, including the construction of Liede Bridge, will be completed by 2008.
To ease the traffic pressure on Huangpu Road, after the completion of the Xinguang Expressway, on-ramps will be built to connect Huanan expressway to Linjiang Road. Vehicles on Huanan expressway may enter the urban areas by Linjiang Road.
At present, Huangpu Road, Huanan Expressway and Guangzhou Road are the main routes into and out of Zhujiang New Town. At the end of 2006, Guangzhou implemented traffic management for the east and west on-ramps of Huangpu Road to improve traffic flow.
Linjiang Road now is expanded to Yuancun, and will continue to connect the power plant, Keyun Road, Chepi Nan Road, Chepi Road, and Daguan Road from west to east.
A citizen square, 1,160,000 square meters, will begin construction in June 2007, and will be completed by December 2009, said the official. In the future, vehicles will arrive at Haixinsha Island through an underground tunnel.
According to the plan, a central square, a citizen square and a water park will be constructed at the central part of Haixinsha Island, and a parking lot with a 300 car capacity will be built under the central square. Bars, docks and a "four season" theme park will be set up. An artificial beach will be constructed near Ersha Island. Related governmental agencies now are weighing whether to build a tunnel from the TV tower to Haixinsha for the convenience of citizens.
