By the end of 2006, Guangzhou's city planning programs will have reached their peak. The Bureau of Urban Utilities and Landscaping of Guangzhou Municipality in December estimates that as of December, there were 36 projects awaiting bidding for work in and around the city, to a total value of 800 million RMB (102 million USD), concerning road rebuilding, bridge maintenance, water supply and transportation according to the Guangzhou Daily.

One of the 36 projects is to build a sludge processing factory in Northern Guangzhou. The factory, aimed at disposing of sludge discharged from the sewage processing factory in northern Guangzhou, will be open to bids this month.

Another program is the whole removal of a German Church as part of the Zhoutouzui Tunnel project, expected to take 210 days in two phases of work.
