The AISG began in 1981, established by the U.S. Consul General of Guangzhou, specifically for the children of its staff, as well as children of American expatriates working in the Delta Pearl River Region. Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, AISG is now the largest international school in Guangdong Province. Mr. Goldberg, is its chairman, and Canada's Consul General is vice-chairman.

The school has both Primary and Middle School Programs, fully compliant with US curricula. After graduation, students are fully equipped to sit examinations for US universities and colleges.
