The officials of Guangzhou Administration of Press, Publication, Radio and Television, announced in a press conference at the Guangzhou Fair yesterday that Guangzhou plans to invest RMB 150 million Yuan (about 18.8 million US Dollars) each year to support the industries of software engineering and comic and animation in the coming five years.

According to some informed animation specialists, the comic and animation lines in Guangzhou are pondering the construction of a "Cartoonists' Castle" in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. The goal is to attract elites from all over China to come and establish their workshops, helping to improve the development and production of comics and animation in the city.

The key to the development of the comic and animation industry is to encourage original creation, with measures like the Foundation for Originality, which the city government is considering.
