Stone House to Reopen in October at the Earliest

Located in Yide Road and with a history of 143 years, the imposing Sacred-Heart Church, or Stone House, is the largest of its kind in Guangzhou. It's undergoing major renovations, the third such repairs since it was built. The first phase of the project is now complete, having taken two years and the church is expected to reopen on October at the earliest or Christmas at the latest.

The Stone House is a magnificent Catholic church. It is also one of only four Gothic churches with masonry structure in the world. Another is the world-famous Notre Dame de Paris.

A special clock costing 750,000 Yuan has been installed. It's the first time the church has had one, and was made in a local clock factory.

Another highlight of the renovations is the church's 98 stained-glass windows which encircle it. The glass was made to measure by a Philippine glass company, specialists in the field of church windows. Total glass area exceeds 600 square meters at a cost of 4.3 million Yuan.
