Across Pearl River Swimmers' Number Adjusted

Updated Beijing Time

Source: Radio Guangdong

The latest plans for the swim across the Pearl River were announced. The total number of estimated swimmers may be down to just 2,000 from the previous estimate of over 10,000. The confirmed adjustments include the cut of 1,800 university quotas, 1,700 army and police quotas and 980 labor union quotas. For example, as a university representative, Guangzhou University will select 80 out of 236 applicants. The number of students is much less than the original 180 planned for Guangzhou University. The swim is an event to show the progress that the Pearl River pollution treatment program has made.
