Lifeguards Being Trained For the Swim across the Pearl River Campaign

Over 30 lifeguards yesterday participated in a training course at one of the sections on the Pearl River. The training was part of the preparations for Guangzhou’s upcoming swimming campaign across the Pearl River. It is expected that the lifeguards supporting the event will exceed 300; however, only 30 of them were selected to receive intensive training Tuesday. Trainees consist of Guangzhou’s professional swimming athletes and members from Guangzhou’s Winter Swimming Association. Their training will continue in the Pearl River until Friday (June 9th). Guangzhou’s swimming campaign across the Pearl River is expected to be held on July 12. Over 10,000 participants will swim 800 meters from the dork at Sun Yat-sen University to the Xinghai Concert hall, as a way to promote the reduction of pollution in the river.
