GZ to Build 8,500 Parking Spaces in Prime Locations

GUANGZHOU is to promote vertical parking systems in the city and will build pilot projects in prime locations in busy commercial streets such as Beijing Road, Shangxiajiu Road, and Zhongshan No. 5 Road.

Guangzhou, with nearly two million motor vehicles, has only 280,000 working parking spaces at this time. Ideally, there should be 1.2 parking spaces for each vehicle.

In a bid to alleviate the shortage of parking spaces in the downtown area, local authorities plan to build 37 permanent car parks, with 8,500 parking spaces, in the city's urban districts over the next four years.

Local authorities have found that 27,930 or 79.8 percent of the 35,000 parking spaces in the downtown area are located on vacant construction sites and that 4,019 or 11.6 percent are on the curbside.
