Life of Guangzhou - Men Collect Girlfriends in China's Industrial Areas

In Dongguan, a heavily industrialized city in Guangdong Province where female workers outnumber the male workers, it is increasingly common for a man to have several girlfriends. According to Southern Metropolis Daily, many female workers in the area are aware that they are sharing their boyfriends with others.

Li Bing, a male worker from Szechuan, started romantic relationships with three girls during 2008. One lives with him, one hangs out with him and the third one is his lover. Li said all his girlfriends knew of the existence of one another and they treated him even better after knowing that.

In a survey conducted by the paper, over 70 percent females workers believe they can find jobs easier than men, and many of the factories have a ratio of 8:2 in terms of female-to-male population. Since female workers can find a job easier, they also often become the main financial support throughout the relationship. However, most female workers see these romantic relationships as temporary, they plan to return home and get married after earning enough.
