Life of Guangzhou - Kuwait CG: Zhanjiang is Recommendable to Be Base of Sino-Kuwait Refinery

42 foreign consular and chamber officials visited Maoming and Zhanjiang on June 18, the second day of their tour in western Guangdong.

The Consul General of Singapore Hong Qiquan asked the officials in Maoming about the solutions in environmental protection. The representative of the city's petrochemical company said that flames may not been seen above the chimneys, the industrial waste water must be processed first, and then pipelined into the fish pound to test if the fish can survive, before being discharged into rivers or ocean.

The Sino-Kuwait Refinery Project worth over 50 billion yuan has been decided to locate in Guangdong. One third of Kuwait's oil will be delivered to this refinery to process, according to Nameer Alquraini, Consul General of Kuwait.

"Zhanjiang is a traffic hub, with its own airport. I might recommend it to be the right place for the refinery, for the city's port, navigation, and its distance to our country. But the final decision will be subject to the inspection by a panel from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil to Zhanjiang, Maoming, Jiangmen and Huizhou around the end of this month." Mr. Alquraini remarked after touring the Zhanjiang harbor.

The consul general looked at the Zhanjiang seaside resort, which opens free to the public, and said he was homesick now, as here looks like his hometown very much.
