The magazine's assessment of the cities is based on their GDP, market size and changing scale.

Guangzhou takes the "runner-up" for its solid industrial foundation, developed service sector, nice balance of economy, and the biggest international trading pivot in the Pearl River in South China.

Shenzhen stands at the top of the chart for its colossal economy aggregate equivalent to the one of an average Chinese province, and one of the best economic efficiency in Chinese cities.

Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing are listed from 3rd to 5th.

The following five are Dalian, Nanjing, Xiamen, Tianjing, and Chongqing.

Forbes remarks that China is going though the largest industrialization in human history, and is transforming from agricultural country to a powerful economy with most of its population becoming urban residents.

The growth of the country's power fundamentally has been changing the cities within.
