A woman surnamed Hu and her daughter spent more than an hour locked in her store in Changfu Plaza, Dongguan, Guangdong province, before police rescued them last Monday.

The incident took place at about 2 pm, after the manager of Changfu Plaza locked the two in Hu's shoe shop because he claimed that Hu was behind in paying her rent.

Hu said the manager, surnamed Chen, had overstepped the bounds of the law.

The incident is under investigation.
