The program for adjusting the standard of minimum wage in Guangdong province is to be put forward later this year. According to Chen Siyi, Director of Wages Department of the Guangdong Provincial Labour and Social Security Department, the new average range of wages adjustment is about 10%, lower than the former adjustment which was 17.8%, but still higher than the rise of prices.

Chen said that, the new adjustment embodies three principles, which are letting low-income citizens share the rapid economic growth of the province; generally raising the minimum wage to the province's average standard and taking price increases into consideration.

Chen also indicated that, Guangdong had adjusted 7 times for the increase of the minimum wage within the province since 1994.
