The overall economic development of Meizhou has witnessed sustainable growth in the first nine moths of this year.

And local economists and experts believe the remote Guangdong city will maintain its bullish momentum in the months ahead.

This year, Meizhou municipal government has expanded its investment in technical innovation and infrastructure construction.

Technical innovation and infrastructural projects, which have begun construction, are set to further spur the city's economic development.

According to figures from Meizhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics, industrial output value of Meizhou exceeded 17.2 billion yuan (US$2.15 billion) in the first nine months of this year, up by 12.2 per cent year-on-year, and foreign trade volume and overseas investment achieved doubled digit growth respectively.

And the city's privately-operated companies performed even stronger. They generated a total industrial output value of 6.31 billion yuan (US$788.75 million) between January and September, up 1.55 billion yuan (US$193.75 million), or a year-on-year increase of 29.3 per cent.

Most of the districts and counties under Meizhou's jurisdiction enjoyed doubled digit growth from January to September.

Pingyuan county achieved an industrial output value of 1.11 billion yuan (US$138.75 million) in the first nine months of this year, up by 33.6 per cent year-on-year.

Industrial output value of Xingning, a suburban city of Meizhou, reached 1.64 billion yuan (US$205.13 million) from January to September, up by 31.1 per cent year-on-year.

Meizhou's pillar industries of electricity, tobacco, building materials and electronic information have witnessed sustainable growth since the beginning of the year.

Total industrial output value of the four pillar industries stood at 11.57 billion yuan (US$1.45 billion) between January and September, up 10.8 per cent year-on-year, representing a lion's share of the city's industrial output value.

Spurred by the city's sustainable industrial production development, Meizhou yielded gross domestic product of about 24.3 billion yuan (US billion) in the first nine months of this year, up 9.1 per cent year-on-year.
