GD Starts Psychological Relief Mechanism for Disaster Victims

Updated Beijing Time

Source: Radio Guangdong

Guangdong has begun to help disaster victims psychologically for the first time. According to the Guangdong Institute of Mental Heath on Aug.28, a medical treatment team consisting of 10 psychologists has been set up to help victims of the floods.

Jia Fujun, head of the institute, said that people are likely to become anxious, nervous, and depressed after a disaster. Jia believes that without psychological treatment, survivors of the floods could be severely affected by stress. The team will first give aid to primary and middle school students in Shaoguan's Lechang next Wednesday. Children who lost their homes, parents and the seriously ill are expected to be helped first.
