Service upgrade: The expanded automated people-mover fleet will extend its service to the permanent SkyPier, replacing the existing bonded bus service, Ricky Leung says.
Hong Kong International Airport will add eight new automated people-mover cars to link the two passenger terminals and a new SkyPier, at a cost of about $90 million.
A fleet of 20 automated people-mover cars - a driverless electric train system - now runs between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 every two to four minutes.
"When the permanent SkyPier opens, the expanded automated people-mover fleet will extend its service to the new pier, significantly enhancing the level of service from the existing bonded bus service,” said Ricky Leung, the Airport Authority's General Manager of Technical Services.
The permanent SkyPier is targeted to open by the end of this year.
