Roger Federer will finally wrap up his 2008 season with a one-night exhibition in Macao as he, James Blake, Björn Borg and John McEnroe conclude this week's lucrative pair of Asian paydays.
After “revenging” his Beijing Olympic loss in a one-set win over Blake in Kuala Lumpur, Federer teamed with Borg for doubles against Americans Blake and McEnroe.
The entire performance will be repeated in Macao at the Venetian casino with Borg and McEnroe re-creating (in much abbreviated form) their epic 1980 Wimbledon final which went for nearly four hours and sealed a fifth straight trophy at the All England club for the Swede.
Federer will then finally take a short break before resuming his regular December training in Dubai, flying in an American junior as a sparring partner.
Federer leads Master Cup winner Novak Djokovic by only ten ranking points on second in the world behind Rafael Nadal, with the Swiss insisting that he is not concerned by the mathematics. "I can still sleep well because he is not going to pass me anytime soon - at least for the next month," said Federer.
He added: "To be two, three, four, five, 25, it doesn't really matter a whole lot. It's either No. 1 or being in the main draw. I'm glad we are at the end of the season and I will take it easy for a few weeks."
