Bank of China Hong Kong confirmed yesterday it had received customer complaints that they had found counterfeit renminbi (RMB) among genuine notes withdrawn from the bank's ATMs here and in Shenzhen.
A personal banking manager of the bank said yesterday there was no evidence the fake cash had come from their ATMs and no problem had been found in their cash examining system. The matter is now handled by the police. The authorities seized 7,406 fake RMB notes in the first 10 months of last year, of which most are 100-yuan ones, but the smaller denominations of 50, 20 and 10 yuan notes were also found.
