China's Lin Yue (front) and his partner Huo Liang perform well in the men's synchronized 10 meter platform. (Xinhua) China won an easy gold again on the men's synchronized 10 meter platform on Monday. It was the Olympic debut for World Champions Lin Yue and Huo Liang, who shrugged off the pressure from a home crowd to take the lead from the first round with a dive that won them a clutch of almost-perfect 9.5s, and one perfect 10.
Lin, 17 and Huo, 19, have dominated the platform synchronized diving since the 2006 Doha Asian Games, where they claimed the gold medal. In the last two years, they have swept gold medals at a series of international competitions, including the World Series, the grand prix and world championships. At the 2007 Melbourne World Championships, they won the gold by a margin of 22 points more than the runners-up.
In water cube, the Chinese teenager pair Lin and Huo stayed unbeatable throughout, winning with a mark of 468.18 points. Germany's duo of Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding rallied for the silver at 450.42, leaving Russia's Gleb Galperin and Dmitry Dobroskok to settle for bronze at 445.26 -- just 0.42 ahead of fourth-place Australia.
The host nation has been a powerful force in diving. Huo was satisfied with his performance in the final. His partner Lin, from Chaozhou city of Guangdong province, is expected to earn his another Olympics gold in Men's Diving 10m Platform to exceed Tian Liang who is well know as 'diving prince' in china. And he said he had confidence to go for it and become china's first double-gold-king in men's diving.
