The turnover of China's electronics and information industry rose 18.2 percent year-on-year to 2.17 trillion yuan (US9 billion) in the first six months of 2007, according to the Ministry of Information Industry.

Of the sales revenue, manufacturing accounted for 1.91 trillion yuan, up 17.6 percent; and software, 260 billion yuan, up 23 percent.

The software sectors involving software services, system integration and IC design grew even faster. Four municipalities and provinces namely Beijing, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Shanghai each saw their software industry revenue topping 20 billion yuan.

The industry sources said the government would adopt more supportive policies to help develop software and system integration sectors and increase demand for self-developed products by increasing government procurement.

Provinces in the central and western regions witnessed higher growth rates.
