      Swimming in Pearl River was once a popular activity in 
        the summer for people in Guangzhou.  But since 1970s 
      it has become a risky pastime because of the increasing
     amounts of consumer and industrial waste in the water.

With the clean-up efforts well under way, Guangzhou
people have a try in the Pearl River.
