Biography of Professor Robert Mundell

World-famous economist; Ph. D. of MIT; Honorary PH.D and Visiting Professor of Renmin University; pioneer of the theory of Optimum Currency Areas; winner of Nobel Prize for Economics in 1999; Intellectual Father of the Euro. He is currently professor of Columbia University in New York.

In 1970, he was a consultant to the Monetary Committee of the European Economic Commission, and in 1972-1973 a member of the nine consultants to the Commission that prepared a report in Brussels on European monetary integration. He was a member of the Bellagio-Princeton study group on International Monetary Reform from 1964 to 1978 and Chairman of the Santa Colomba Conferences on International Monetary Reform between 1971 and 1987.

Professor Mundell gave the Frank Graham Memorial Lecture at Princeton University in 1965, the Marshall Lectures at Cambridge University in 1974, the Ohlin Lectures in 1998, and the Robbins Memorial Lectures in 2000. In 1983 he received the Jacques Rueff Medal and Prize in the French Senate; in 1997 he became a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association; in 1998, he was made a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science; and in 1999, he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics.

Mundell's writings include over a hundred articles in the scientific journals and the following books: The International Monetary System: Conflict and Reform (1965); Man and Economics and International Economics (1968); Monetary Theory: Interest, Inflation and Growth in the World Economy 1971; and co-edited A Monetary Agenda for the World Economy (1983); Global Disequilibrium (1990); Debts, Deficits and Economic Performance (1991); Building the New Europe (1992); Inflation and Growth in China (1996).

Prof. Mundell' activities related to Mundell International Universities of Entrepreneurship(MIUE):

1. On June 15th, 2004, Prof. Mundell had a meeting with leaders of Beijing educational affairs committees and leaders of MIUE in Diaoyutai National Hotel, and had a common sense to set up an university specially for cultivating entrepreneurs, and authorized to use his name to name the university.

2. On June 23rd, 2004, Prof. Mundell made a lecture for Tsinghua students and MIUE students on the subject of Problems of China currency reform and currency rate.

3. On August 24th, 2004, Prof. Mundell presented and lectured in Beijing International Education Exhibition. 

4. On August 28th, 2004, Prof. Mundell lectured in Zongbujidi for MIUE students on the subject of Enterprise excellent leadership and world economy.

5. On November 9th, 2004, Prof. Mundell and Prof. Xu Jialu celebrated the establishment of MIUE.
