US CG: Americans Need to Focus on Broader Issues in Election

Updated Beijing Time

US Consul General in Guangzhou Robert Goldberg talks about the Election during an exclusive interview by www.lifeofguangzhou.com.

The US Election will be a test for American people on economy and national security, as said US Consul General in Guangzhou Robert Goldberg during an exclusive interview by www.lifeofguangzhou.com this Monday.

He pointed out these two are the top critical concerns in the Presidential Election now as the economic difficulty and Iraq issue still haunt the country. The Americans need to focus more on broader issues, rather than gay marriage and abortion.

China and Sino-US relation are not big issues now, not like the last Election, he said.

The Consul General thought highly of Chinese media’s coverage on the Election. They report the substances of the issues confronting US people, with good perspective, good experiences, and good analysis of the candidates' policies and the American future leadership.

He welcomed Chinese journalists to go to US to observe and report the Election more directly, and expected more analysis by Chinese media.

Mr. Robert Goldberg also believed the element of partisanship is downplayed by national unity in US in recent years.
