2. Qualifications

a. Professional Ethics
Applicants for the positions in Sun Yat-sen University must abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, be devoted to education, observe academic norms, scrupulously abide by the rules and regulations of Sun Yat-sen, conduct studies strictly and cautiously, work together in teams, show concern for students and safeguard the reputation of the university consciously.

b. Credentials and Qualifications

(1)Applicants for the positions of professors must in principle have a Master degree or above (candidates who were born after 1963 are required to have a Doctorate degree) and have working experience on the correspondent position for at least five years; (2)those for associate professor must in principle have a Master degree or above (candidates born after 1963 are required to have a doctorate degree) plus working experience on the correspondent position for at least five years, and have passed national professional examination ; (3)those for lecturers must in principle have a Master degree and a lecturer title, or have a doctorate degree plus minimum two years of working experience as an assistant; (4)excellent candidates are not confined to these requirements.

c. Publications (five years previous to the time of employment)

(1)Applicants for the position of professors must have a. published 7 high-quality papers or above on the major academic journals in the discipline (of which not less than 5 must be signed as first author or correspondent author); or published 4 high-quality papers or above on the major academic journals in the discipline (of which not less than 3 must be signed as first author or correspondent author), and high-level works and textbooks for the major (independently completed, editor-in-chief or first author); b. presided over one research project of provincial level or above; or participated in a key project of provincial level or above, or two national research as a major partner; or presided over a sub-project under a key national project, a sub-project under a key provincial project; or third prize or above in teaching or research at provincial/ministry level.

(2)Applicants for the position of associate professors must have a. published 5 high-quality papers or above on the major academic journals in the discipline (of which not less than 3 must be signed as first author or correspondent author); or published 3 high-quality papers or above on the major academic journals in the discipline (of which not less than 2 must be signed as first author or correspondent author), and high-level works and textbooks for the major (second author and above); b. presided over one research project of department level or above, or participated in one research project of ministry/province level or above as a major partner; or presided over one international cooperation project (for humanities and social science, the research fund is more than 50, 000 RMB, for science and engineering, medical science, the research fund is more than 200,000 RMB), or won third prize or above in teaching and research of province/ministry level.

(3) Applicants for the position of lecturers must have published at least 2 papers on any academic journals in the discipline or works (second author or above).Those who have published academic papers on the most influential academic journals of the discipline, or whose research results have the most important impact, or have gained patents of great practical values are not limited to the conditions mentioned above for employment of the positions (but have to be confirmed and approved by the university).

Recruitment Announcement for Posts Under “Hundred-Scholar” Talent-Recruiting Program Funded by “Xinghua Talents Project” of South China University of Technology

2. Qualifications

Applicants are required to personally engage in teaching and academic research. In general, candidates are supposed to be under the age of 45 for the Specially-engaged Professorship in natural sciences and under the age of 50 for those who work in the humanities or social sciences. Candidates are expected to be under 55 of age for the Chair Professorship in natural sciences and under the age of 60 for those who work in humanities or social sciences. As for the positions of Outstanding Young Teachers, candidates in natural sciences should be under the age of 40 in general and under 45 for those who work in humanities or social sciences. (No strict age limitation is set for those with outstanding academic achievements.); 

In general candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a related field or discipline; 

Candidates should be competent in offering core courses in a particular field; 

Candidates for the position of Specially-engaged Professorship and that of Chair Professorship should possess outstanding accomplishment in scientific research as well as universally acknowledged academic reputation; candidates for the posts of Outstanding Young Teachers must be distinguished for their academic attainments and must possess great potential for further advancement. The research focus of the applicant must conform to the general development plan of SCUT’s discipline construction; 

Innovative vision for disciplinary development and academic research and strong ability for piloting cutting-edge research programs in a particular field are required; 

Team spirit and abilities in organization, management and leadership are preferred; and 

The in-service time per year is no less than 9 months for Specially-engaged Professors and no less than 2-3 months for Chair Professors; Outstanding Young Teachers are requested to work full-time at their posts.

3. Benefits Package

1) Specially-engaged Professorship

(1) An apartment (with 3 bedrooms and 2 sitting rooms) is provided with the housing subsidy and rental subject to the University’s regulations; or a taxable financial aid of 400,000 RMB is provided for the purchase of housing;

(2) Corresponding research fund ranging from 500,000 to 2,000,000 RMB is provided in general (from 200,000 RMB to 500,000 RMB for those who work in humanities or social sciences). To meet the needs of discipline construction and the implementation of the “985 Project”, the research fund may be expanded after necessary appraisal if the appointee is undertaking an interdisciplinary research in a chosen field under construction;

(3) An allowance of 50,000 RMB is provided for the appointee to get settled on campus (those who are provided with financial aid for housing are excluded). Such allowances or subsidies can also be provided by the relevant schools or colleges;

(4) Besides the basic salary, a job subsidy of 100,000 RMB per year is offered;

(5) Job placement for the spouse and residence registration for children shall be taken care of by the University if need be; and

(6) The University as well as the relevant college shall assist the appointee in organizing his or her academic teams.

2) Chair Professorship

(1) A temporary apartment (with 3 bedrooms 2 sitting rooms) is provided, with the housing subsidy and rental subject to the University’s regulations;

(2) In general, a research fund ranging from 500,000 to 2,000,000 RMB is provided (from 200,000 to 500,000 RMB for those who work in humanities or social sciences). To meet the needs of discipline construction and the implementation of the “985 Project”, the research fund may be expanded after necessary appraisal if the appointee is undertaking an interdisciplinary research in a chosen field under construction;

(3) A monthly payment of RMB 15,000 (salary and job subsidy included) is offered according to the actual number of months spent at the post; and

(4) The University as well as the relevant college shall assist the appointee in organizing his or her academic teams.

3) Outstanding Young Teachers

(1) A temporary apartment (with 3 bedrooms and 1 sitting room) is provided with the housing subsidy and rental subject to the University’s regulations; or a taxable financial aid of 250,000 RMB is provided for the purchase of housing;

(2) In general, a research fund ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 RMB is provided (from 100,000 to 200,000 RMB for those who work in humanities or social sciences); the fund is to be channeled into the discipline construction fund of the relevant college or school;

(3) An allowance of 30,000 RMB is provided for the appointee to get settled on campus (those who are provided with financial aid for housing are excluded). Such allowances or subsidies can also be provided by the relevant college or school;

(4) Besides the basic salary, a job subsidy of 30, 000 RMB per year is offered; and

(5) Job arrangement for the spouse and residence registration for children shall be taken care of by the University if need be.

2. Personal information: curriculum vitae, copies of required credential proofs (diploma or degree certificate and academic and professional qualifications, etc.);

3. Academic achievements: copies of 2-3 representative papers (including the full texts of the papers and the covers and contents of the journals) and the representative books (copies of covers and contents) and papers (copies of the first page) listed in the application form;

4. Particulars of the academic papers indexed in SCI, EI, SSCI and CSSCI, rate of citations by other journals (the original document with the seal authorized by the index searching organizations concerned);

5. Copies of certificates of the research projects, awards and patents listed in the application form;

6. Certificate copies of the positions held at international academic conferences/organizations and the letters of invitation to international conferences (specially invited included); and

7. Three letters of recommendation from renowned scholars in the same field (together with the translated versions and the contact information of the designated scholars).
