Address: Department of Chinese for International Students, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is one of the key universities in Guangdong Province, China. It is situated in the northern suburb of Guangzhou , a city with a long history and a rich cultural legacy, as well as an economic hub in south China. Its Main campus sits at the northern foot of the Baiyun Mountain , one of Guangzhou’s scenic areas. With an elegant environment featuring green trees, fresh air and an limpid creek with small bridges across it , the University is an ideal place for study, cultivation, and education. At present, the University covers an area of 60 acres. It offers 29 BA-degree courses in 12 faculties and 5 departments; it is entitled to confer the Master’s degree and Doctorial degree to eligible graduates. We have a staff of over1300, including over 70 professors, 230 associate professors and 300 lecturers. In addition, we employ more than 40 experts/lecturers from other countries. Currently, nearly 20000 students are studying at the University, among whom are more than 10000 undergraduates and over 100 foreign students from over 30 other countries . The University is mainly to train advanced talents majoring in foreign languages, international economics and trade , management, law , IT ,etc. 1. The Department of Chinese for International Students in the University, since its foundation in 1987, engages in the teaching of Chinese language to foreign students for long or short terms. Training classes are offered perennially to teach Chinese (Mandarin ) and Cantonese at elementary , intermediate ,and advanced levels. The Department boasts a group of experienced teachers who are holders of the Certificate for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language issued by the Ministry of Education. In addition to traditional methods, language labs with advanced facilities are available and multi-media teaching technologies are employed. Thus, the applicants can improve their Chinese level within a short time, aided by colourful extracurricular language practice activities. With simple and convenient admission procedures, and flexible training periods, the applicants are welcome to enroll at any time. 3. Fees. ( All are charged in RMB, current exchange rate being 1 dollar to 8.21 yuan approxmately ) a) Students in a long period (2 terms a year, tuition is collected by term) Type of students b) Students in a short term (taking a training course of Chinese) Length Short –term training class of Chinese will be held during winter vocation (January to February) and summer vocation (July to August ); fees are the same as those listed above. Group students coming to study Chinese can be charged in special amount according to their requirements and activities . c) All the learning materials are paid at actual expenses. Students taking a refresher course of Chinese will pay about RMB 120 yuan; Specialty undergraduates will pay 200 yuan yearly. d) Accommodation and fees for international students: The University provides apartments for foreign students. International students are accommodated in twin rooms, complete with TV set , telephone ,air conditioner , shower , toilet and other necessities ,40-50 RMB per day for one bed . Besides, international students can lodge outside campus. There are several canteens on the campus, including two catering specially to international teachers and students.
