South China Agricultural University (SCAU) was established in 1952 and has been developed to be a leading agricultural institution in China. It was supervised by China' s Agriculture Ministry until 2000 when it was transferred under the supervision of the Guangdong Provincial Government. In April 2005 China' s Education Ministry appraised its bachelor academic performance as Excellence. SCAU' s academics and research focus on sub-tropical agricultural disciplines.
The campus covers some 550 hectors in Wushan, Tianhe, Guangzhou. The university provides 35 doctorate, 61 master and 69 bachelor majors as well as the key disciplines respectively of 3 nationally, 5 of Agriculture Ministry and 9 provincially. The faculty boasts 661 professors including 1 academician of China' s Academy of Science, 214 beneficiary of state special allowance and 136 doctorate tutors.
SCAU' s academic exchange with overseas has been enjoying prosperity. UN, FAO and China' s government co-established the Asian-Pacific Training Center of Sericulrure and Chinese International Training Center of Agriculture at SCAU. These two centers have trained more than 500 agricultural professionals and managers for some 40 countries.
