On December 20, 2000,the former China TieTong----China Railway Communication Co., Ltd. (China Railcom), was founded. At January 20, 2004, it was shifted from the Ministry of Railways to the administration of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) and its name was changed to "China TieTong Telecommunications Corporation." Ever since its incorporation, China TieTong is a major state-owned basic telecommunications operator.
