Warm Tips for Your Happy Spring Festival

Updated Beijing Time

Like many other big cities in the world, Guangzhou has its share of crime and violence. Although rather rare, there is an increase in crime in the weeks preceding the Spring Festival. With the hundreds of millions of people converging in stations and airports come also a number of thieves, pickpockets and con men. To guarantee you spend a happy and safe Spring Festival holiday, a few simple rules should be obeyed whether staying at home or travelling.

Public Security

1 Be especially careful of your belongings when in a bus or a railway station.

2 Avoid going out at night near busy transit stations.

3 When travelling by taxi, only take legal taxis, especially yellow ones.

4 Take good care of your belongings at all time when you are in the street and be cautious when "kind" strangers stop you for a "friendly chat."

5 Be cautious when using ATMs

Home Security

1 Do not let people know where your valuables are stored at home.

2 Lock all doors and windows when you are away.

3 Keep a light on in the house or put a pair of male shoes in front of the door if you plan to leave for a long period of time.
