"Earth Hour” is an annual international event created by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and held on the last Saturday of March. Households and businesses are invited to turn off all non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour so as to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
Based on an idea successfully held in Thailand in 2005, WWF in Australia held a similar event two years later. In 2008, “Earth Hour” was extended worldwide. This year, “Earth Hour“ will be held on March 27th between 8:30-9:30pm and on a larger scale than ever before. WWF hopes to see participate more than 6,000 cities and 1 billion people around the world, making “Earth Hour” the world's largest environmental protection event.
