Learn More about Guangzhou's New BRT

Updated Beijing Time

The long awaited Guangzhou BRT(Bus Rapid Transit)finally opened this morning (Feb. 10). Route information concerning the new BRT lines is available at the bus stops where staff can help passengers plan more efficient journey and on the Guangzhou traffic information website (http://www.gzjt.gov.cn).

The BRT in brief:

1. Differences between BRT and ordinary buses
a. Getting on and off. Passengers may board buses at BRT stations from both the front and back door whereas boarding normal buses can only be done from the front door.

b. Buying tickets. Instead of paying the bus fee on board the bus, passengers pay access to the BRT station either in cash or using their Yang Cheng Tong card.

c. Free transfer in the same direction. Paying the bus fee at the BRT stop and not on board the bus allows passengers to transfer freely between BRT buses at BRT stations. Upon exiting the BRT station gates or a bus at non-BRT stations, your ticket is no longer valid.

2. Fare
From February 10th to 19th, all BRT passengers can travel freely along all BRT routes when boarding at a BRT station.

The fares of all BRT buses shall be of 2 yuan. Yang Cheng Tong card holders can benefit of a 40% discount after using the service at least 15 times in a month. Senior citizens and disabled people can take the BRT for free just like the rest of the city's transportation network and students enjoy a 50% discount.

3. Users Tips
N1, N2, N3 refer to stops 1, 2, 3 on the northern platform;
S1, S2, S3 refer to stops 1, 2, 3 on the southern platform.
