Guangdong's first wetland park, located at Wanqingsha Town in Nansha, will open in the forthcoming National Day golden week. Local residents will able to enjoy the undisturbed lush landscape and the twittering of thousands of birds at the park. For environmental considerations and in order to minimize disturbance of the birds, park administrators will limit he number of admitted visitors to 100 per day.
The areas south of the 18 creeks at Wanqingsha Town in Nansha are the best preserved habitats of mangroves. These habitats constitute a most typical wetland, used by migratory birds as a transit point and feeding site.
In a bid to further preserve the ecosystem of this valuable wetland, Nansha District plans to build an about 867 hectares protected wooded area. Preparations for this project are underway, with construction due to start in October and be completed in 2010.
