The districts of Conghua, Panyu and Zengcheng are rarely visited destinations by expats living in Guangzhou, often unaware of the treasures they hold. Sometimes considered as the city's “back garden,” citizens frequently retreat here on weekends to escape the pollution and noise of downtown Guangzhou.

Conghua, an eco-tourism destination

Highlights: forest parks, hot springs, cultural festivals

Conghua, covered with mountains, rivers and green parks, is ideal place for a weekend retreat. With a number of quiet tourism attractions, the city also boasts two of China's best forest parks. Here, you could rent a small cottage and enjoy country life the time of a weekend. For more luxury, the city is also home to a number of high-class hotels with hot spring facilities. Built amidst beautiful scenery, the hotels are a great place to organise business conferences and symposiums. The city also organises a number of annual festivals and events, including a cross-country rally.

Panyu, a place to explore traditional Lingnan culture

Highlights: traditional Chinese gardens, mountains, Xiangjiang Safari Park,

Chimelong Paradise, Chimelong Water Park

Panyu is frequently cited as the cradle of Lingnan culture. A number of famous traditional Chinese gardens are located in the city and are visited from people across the country. Other famous tourist attractions include Xiangjiang Safari Park, Chimelong Paradise and Chimelong Water Park.

Zengcheng: discover ancient Chinese legends whilst eating fresh lychees



Highlights: lychee fields, White Kiosk (Bai Shui Zhai), He Xiangu Family Temple

Zengcheng has long been famous for its lychee. Today, its ambition is to become the garden of the Pearl River Delta. The town has already redeveloped many tourist sites in the mountains and along the rivers. According to an ancient legend, Zengcheng was the home of He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals. He Xiangu Family Temple still receives numerous visitors because of her great reputation for generosity and kindness.
