Zhaoqing, Mix of Lake, River and Mountain Beauty

Updated Beijing Time

The Star Lake, which is among the first group of the national key scenic areas, consists of the Seven-star Rock (the No.1 scenic wonder in Guangdong and Guangxi) and Dinghu Mountain (No.1 mountain in Guangdong and Guangxi), and is linked with Duanzhou District of Zhaoqing City, a famous national historical and cultural city.

Seven-star Rock consists of seven limestones, namely Langfeng Rock, Jade Screen Rock, Stone Room Rock, Heavenly Pillar Rock, Toad Rock, Immortal Palm Rock and Apo Rock. The Star Lake covers and area of 6.49 sq km. The 20km-long embankment divides the lake into five small lakes, i.e., the Central, Wave and Sea, Fairy Maiden, Green Lotus and Inner lakes.

The Seven-star Scenic Area is composed of five small lakes, six hillocks, seven rocks and eight caves. Like the Big Dipper, the seven rocks on the bright lake surface show the picturesque landscape in Guilin and Hangzhou. In the east of the scenic area, there are the Fairy Maiden Worshipping Buddha and a 1,000-year-old ancient temple; in the west, there is the scenery of waves and sea facing the sun; in the south, there is the memorial archway at night, and the No.1 Fountain in Asia; in the north, people will find the Double Source Cave, and five hundred arhats; and in the center, there are many scenic spots, such as Jade Screen and Green Peaks, Water and Moon Rock, marvelous things hidden in the stone room, the 1,000-year-old poem corridor, the heavenly pillar, etc. These scenic spots will make tourists enjoy themselves so much as to forget to go home.

The seven rock hill are in miraculous shapes. The most wonderful scenery is a huge sleeping Buddha formed by Apo, Heavenly Pillar and Immortal's Palm rocks. At the Pure Brightness (5th solar term) and Autumn Equinox (16th solar term) every year, the sun sets at the mouth of the sleeping Buddha, thus forming a scenic wonder of the Buddha with a red pearl in the mouth.
