Private Buddhist House: Ceramic & Clay Sculpture Shop

Updated Beijing Time

On Beijing Road, that frenzied shopping matrix in the city center, sits a solemn and quiet ceramic and clay sculpture shop, the Private Buddhist House.

After opening the yellow wooden door and stepping onto macadam, one can see lamplight gently illuminating a variety of ceramic and clay sculptures. While appreciating these Buddhist sculptures and listening to soft Sanskrit music, one has the welcome opportunity to escape from the noisy surroundings into a peaceful, holy world. At the store’s opening, a Buddhist master from Thailand performed a prayer, which gives the shop’s sacred aura greater authenticity.

Shopkeeper Weni is a graduate student at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Although she made some of the store’s products, most of the works are by her teachers Zengli and Zengpeng. Every sculpture in the shop is hand-made and unique.
