It's a bit of a drive to Fangcun on the western outskirts of Guangzhou, but well worth it for tea connoisseurs.
The sidewalks of Shiwei Zhong Lu Central are piled high with sacks, boxes, and urns of loose tea, filling the air with the scent of oolong, jasmine, and dried chrysanthemum.
Catering mostly to the retail trade, these shops sell everything from bulk tea to teapots, tea sets, serving utensils and furniture. Nearby is the Flower, Bird, and Fish Mart (Xique Lu, Fangcun), a fascinating collection of open-air shops selling everything from birds, bird cages, and bird supplies to crickets, fish, fish supplies, plants, flower pots, rocks, garden furniture, fountains, rosewood furniture, and porcelain.
