Home of Traditional GZ Commerce - Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Area

上下九步行街

Updated Beijing Time

One of the three major shopping streets of Guangzhou, Shangxiajiu (上下九) starts at Shangjiu Street, then moves westward through Xiajiu Lu (下九路) to Dishifu Lu (第十甫路).

Compared with Beijing Lu (北京路) and Nonglinxia Lu (农林下路), Shangxiajiu is mainly for more budget-conscious shoppers. Known for its lower prices, about 250 shops and malls, mainly carrying clothes, shoes and food, line this downtown span of about 800 meters.

A vast number of famous and historical local names can be found at Shangxiajiu, such as Heling's Shoes & Hats, the Guangzhou Department Store for Women and Children, Xingping Tailoring and the Hualin Jade and Jewellery Market (华林玉器市场).

In addition, a sea of renowned restaurants and food stores cater to the gourmet appetite, including Guangzhou Restaurant (广州酒家), Taotao Ju (陶陶居), Lianxiang Lou (莲香楼), Qingping Restaurant (清平饭店), Wenchang Chicken (文昌鸡), Huangshanghuang Sausage (皇上皇腊肠), Nanxin Desserts (南信甜品), Yin's Canteen (银记), Quxiang Cakes and so on.

Most of these shops and restaurants are housed in Qilous, the local traditional architectural style, adding a taste of history and culture to your shopping experience.

Some modern malls have been built in the area to increase commercial prosperity. Liwan Plaza (荔湾广场), located at the eastern end of Xiajiu Lu (下九路), is a must for shopping enjoyment. Stores carrying fashionable clothes, shoes, jade, crystal, AV items, snacks and so forth can all be found in this 7-story building. Other malls like Dongji (for youngsters), Minghui, Cyber and Qiancai are scattered west of Liwan Plaza.
