This summer, four Guangzhou auction companies will hold six art auctions, heralding a new, sumptuous season for the local art market. The items for sale include traditional paintings, calligraphy, porcelain, jade, gemstones, and sculptures.
Running Horse (奔马) by Xu Beihong (徐悲鸿,a celebrated late Chinese painter) in 1945 during his artistic peak. It is estimated to sell for ￥400,000 to 600,000.
One-Thousand-Year Fruit (华实千年) by Qi Baishi (齐白石, a celebrated late Chinese painter) It is estimated at ￥480,000 to 680,000.
Qinghua Chinaware from the late Qing dynasty with twining lotus symbols in the middle. It is valued at ￥100,000 to 150,000.
All six auctions will have relevant pre-auction exhibitions and will be subdivided by type of object. The Guangdong Guardian promotes pottery technique from Guangdong's Shiwan, famous for its pottery sculpture, and paintings and calligraphies in post-Lingnan styles. Guangdong Poly focuses on ancient treasures like porcelain, jade and copperware. All pieces being auctioned are made by national-caliber master craftsmen.
