The Lingnan Painting School is comprised of artists from South China's Guangdong Province or who have Guangdong ancestry. An invitation-only exhibition of the school's work, featuring pieces from around China, opened in the Memorial Hall of Lingnan Painting School (岭南画派纪念馆)last weekend.
The exhibition is highlighted by masterpieces of Lingnan school maestros like the late Gao Jianfu, Chen Shuren and Guan Shanyue. Young painters are featured, as are masters from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.
Originating in the 1920s, the Lingnan school holds a significant role in the history of Chinese painting. Its revolutionary zeal for "blending East and West, past and present"; it's insights into the national consciousness, responsibility, and humanity have been widely accepted and acclaimed.
This is the first exhibit since the memorial hall was newly reopened. (CCTV.com)
