With the Christmas season approaching fast comes a succession of concerts from a number of renowned orchestras adding to the festive atmosphere in Guangzhou. If Christmas is all about family, then what better than to share the joy of beautiful melodies performed by talented musician, bringing warmth to the city with their musical banquets?

Lifeofguangzhou.com has prepared for you a selection of the best concerts held in the upcoming weeks:

The Johann Strauss Orchestra and Ballet from Germany is one of Europe's most active orchestras today. On December 23rd they will give a Christmas Gala Concert, bringing the splendid Viennese spirit to life on stage in Guangzhou.

The Vienna Johann Strauss Waltz Orchestra from Austria was founded Johann Strauss senior. After performing in Guangzhou only 12 months ago fo the New Year concert, they will return to China with their exquisite Waltzes and a revised version of the Chinese "Kangding Love Song."

Directed by Julia Jones, the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra will make its first appearance in Guangzhou over Christmas with a selection of masterpieces from Johann Baptist Strauss and his sons.

Local orchestras will also take part in the Christmas concerts with two remarkable shows. The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra will be playing Gustav Mahler's Symphony No.7 in E Minor, and the Pearl River Film Studio Orchestra shall be performing the intense melodies taken from Hayao Miyazaki's films.

Apart from classical music, Secret Garden, an Irish-Norwegian duo and the Harlem Gospel Choir, one of the United States' most prominent gospel choirs will also appear on stage. The local Little Skylark Children's Choir will sing traditional festival carols on Christmas Eve and the Hong Kong Children's Treble Choir will sing songs from well known animation films on Boxing day.

Finally, Guangzhou's most awaited musical event of the year, the famous Guangzhou New Year concert will welcome the "World Orchestra" established by conductor Igor Markevitch.
