The "Boléro" is a one-movement orchestral piece by French composer Maurice Ravel. Originally commissioned by Russian ballerina Ida Rubenstein, the piece premiered in 1928 and became Ravel's most famous musical compositions.
The music of the "Boléro" is built over an unchanging ostinato on top of which is repeated a single theme, consisting of two eighteen-bar sections, each itself repeated twice. Tension is provided by the steady percussive rhythm.
