Set in modern day China, "21 Carats" tells the story of two young people suffering the blow of the financial crisis. Liu Jiayin is a materialist female model who goes bankrupt when losing all her money on the stock market. To make ends meet, she has let out a room in her big apartment to a young man, Wang Jiwei. Wang helps Liu return to a normal life, teaching her how to save money and without noticing it, they begin to fall in love. However, in a moment of great disappear, Liu's rich ex-boyfriend asks her to marry him with a 21-carat diamond ring...
This comedy is directed and performed by the same crew who produced "Romeo and Zhu Yingtai." To discuss the importance of love and material possessions, the stories attempts to tell audiences that it is wisdom which leads to a satisfying life, not abundant wealth.
