Born in Jūrmala, Latvia in August 1984, Vestard Shimkus started playing the piano at the age of five and has been studying with Professor Dmitry Bashkirov since 2003. Winner of the Latvian Grand Music Award in 2002, he has performed in Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Ireland, Finland, Estonia, Germany, Italy, USA and Hungary.

For his first concert in Guangzhou on September 3rd, Vestard Shimkus has chosen to present Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata No.2 op.36 in b flat minor.
